Their goodwill mission shortly takes on dangerous overtones when some of the cons stage a daring attempt at a jailbreak! It is now Sam and Max's mission in life to convert this pagan and return the hallowed dough balls to their rightful home on the country's grocery shelves.

The Final Episode
Nearly every villain from the series' short run collaborate to finally destroy Sam & Max. Somehow their evil plot involves tying Sam & Max up in the cockpit of a jet, and numerous flashbacks to the TV series, comics, and some totally fake, eerily corny flashbacks that somebody made up.

When it comes to defining the cult animated TV series of the 90s, there is one show that would make most people's top ten and that show is 'Sam & Max Freelance Police'.

Based on the beloved comic books by Steve Purcell, Sam and Max shot to fame in the 1993 point-and-click graphic adventure 'Sam & Max Hit the Road' and now because of their return to the PC in new episodic adventures interest in the Dog detective and his hyperkinetic rabbity thing sidekick has never been so great. Back in 1997, the pair hit the small screen with their own TV series and with their own unique take on popular culture.

At a time when quirky characters such as 'Ren & Stimpy', 'Freakazoid', 'Animaniacs' and 'The Tick' ruled the animation airwaves, 'Sam & Max Freelance Police' fitted right into that mould. Sam is an old school detective using his skills to be a freelance policeman, hired to investigate or cover those cases that the law won't touch. Extremely laid back and prone to using far too many words to explain a very simple point, Sam is the brains of the pair and loves an ice cream sandwich. Max on the other hand is madness personified. His crazy grin and pointy teeth, he loves violence and serves up some very unusual suggestions when it comes to solving the case.

Over seen by creator Steve Purcell, the animated series is filled with classic Sam and Max moments that fans will revel in. Watching Sam and Max drive around in their police car around Grover's Mill, given jobs by the Commissioner is a joy for fans of the comic book and the video games alike. Classic episodes include the brilliant 'The Glazed McGuffin Affair', the very seasonal 'Christmas Bloody Christmas' and the very funny 'Big Trouble At The Earth's Core' but there is plenty here to savour. The only sad thing is that there was only one season of the show, twenty-three episodes in all because this is classic animation at its very best.

'Sam & Max Freelance Police: The Complete Animated Series' is a must for all fans of the crime busting pair. Animation from the 90s showed what the medium could do and 'Sam and Max' are the personification of how far 2D animation can go and how surreal it can be while still been extremely funny.
