MAX & PADDY'S BOX SET

MAX AND PADDY'S ROAD TO NOWHERE
Starring: Peter Kay and Patrick McGuinness
Written and created by Peter Kay and Patrick McGuinness
Running Time: 180 minutes

Episode 1
Following their dodgy failed assassination job the two bouncers leave the Phoenix club behind them and take to the open road in their treasured motorhome. But living in a confined space starts to grate, and conflicts soon arise over Paddy's needs and Max's economising. Light relief comes in the shape of a dodgy plasma screen telly... the only problem is that the lads have to help steal it. In the meantime, their lack of home entertainment leads the pair to sample the local nightspots where Max's new dance moves attract the attention of the infamous Belgrano sisters.

Episode 2
Paddy is soon disenchanted after dabbling in the world of adult films and, on the road, disaster strikes when the motor home breaks down. This leads to a night spent sleeping rough in the woods with Max engaging in a few revealing campfire confessions.

Episode 3
The pair now go to London and turn up unannounced at Max's old school friend Kevin 'The Wolfster' Wolfson's birthday party. Tina, Max's one true love, turns up and Max foolishly talks to her; he discovers that she is now actually married to, and has had a child with, The Wolfster. However, it soon comes out that the child, a 10 year old boy called Daniel, is actually Max's. Tina warns Max to stay away but the following morning he drags Paddy with him to steal what he thinks is a school bus with young Daniel aboard. They pick the wrong bus however, and following a tense scene with the police are sent to prison.

Episode 4
The ex-door men are now in prison after the school bus incident. Paddy is forced to share a cell with a Cliff Richard impersonator who actually believes he is Cliff. After an uncomfortable first night, Paddy admits his fear of being 'bummed' in the shower room and so Max comes up with a plan: they should make the other prisoners believe they are two genuine big-league gangsters called 'The Phoenix Twins'. Soon, their old Phoenix Club boss Brian Potter comes to visit, announcing that he's organising several events to help speed up their release. They're less than keen on his ideas, not wanting a high profile campaign ruining their newly built hard-boys image. Potter, as ever, fails to listen, and the whole wing see him on the TV news talking about 'the doormen' Max and Paddy.

Episode 5
The pair drive their motor home to the country where they accidentally knock over and kills a cow. Tracing the cow to a nearby farm, the pair go off to find the farmer and claim expenses from him for the damage to the van. They come across what they assume is the farmer: an odd old man in a field, who instead of giving them money sells them a 'breeder pig' for £100. He claims they can sell it on at market for around £300. It turns out to be a total con though, the 'farmer' was actually just the drunk, crazy father-in-law of the real farmer.

Episode 6
Max and Paddy finally make Newcastle where they visit Max's old doorman friend Billy 'The Butcher' Shannon. They agree to let Shannon, who is looking for his estranged son, hitch a ride around. A big mistake. Shannon uses a shotgun to force a motorway cafe to open for the trio late at night. Before long Max and Paddy are involved in a police chase and subsequent shoot-out!

Max and Paddy's 'Road to Nowhere' is a great hit. Written by the famous Peter Kay and Patrick McGuinness, who now hilarious jokes and gags. Every time I watch this I can't help but laugh. For me it just a quality TV series. In every episode, Max and Paddy get into some trouble and try and resolve it with a laugh along the way.

The characters that Peter and Patrick play are both comical and can spit out a joke or three. People love the characters so this series could last for a long time but unfortunately there is only one series and hopefully another will be out soon.

Peter and Patrick portray the characters so well, it's hard to realise that they don't actually act like this in reality. Their punch lines are so catchy that I hear my friends using them all the time. So obviously it's a favourite with most.

With great lines such as "how dare you" and "that'll ding dang do" that fills you with tears of laughter every time. You just can't go wrong, this DVD is defiantly worth the money as the comedy is so funny that you can always laugh whenever you watch it.

Finally I must say that "Road to Nowhere" is a must buy. Great comedy, great storylines that everybody can enjoy, this lighthearted comedy is typically made for average English men. So if you're a Peter Kay fan and like this kind of pointless hum or then this is without a doubt for you.

BONUS FEATURES

Outtakes
These outtakes should really have been left in the series, as every single one is absolutely hysterical. I found these just as funny as the actual series. It's almost impossible to not laugh at any of these. So you must watch this, its imperative.

Commentary
I was a bit confused with the commentary, there were different people commentating for different shows. And some of these people sounded like they were chosen from the street. But again it was different and funny to me. But my advice is to leave it off and watch Max and Paddy first.

Trailers
These are short clips of Max and Paddy during the series. Photo Gallery Varies photos from the series with the theme tune in the background.

MAX AND PADDY'S THE POWER OF TWO
Starring: Peter Kay and Patrick McGuinness
Written and created by Peter Kay and Patrick McGuinness
Running time: 82 minutes

Max and Paddy are back but this time it's the road to fitness. Peter Kay has teamed up with Patrick McGuinness to create a fitness DVD for 'everybody's body.'

Max and Paddy the lovable two who we have seen before in "Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere" are back with more laughs and a workout. The script is just like before with the same old gags and punch lines. The comedy is very light hearted and easy to be understood by all. This is a great mixture of comedy and fitness.

Max a middle aged single man with a lot of heart and his sex obsessed friend Paddy are your average English man, who like to put a little humour into any situation. One morning decide to make a fitness DVD. After all anybody is capable, but with Max's army training and Paddy's Sexercise's they cant go wrong. I mean who wouldn't want to get fit with a pair of comedians.

This DVD is a very different approach from the usual Peter Kay DVDs. Although the comedy is just as funny. Peter Kay has taken the hearts of the public with his comedy as is still doing it now.

So if you want to get fit while having a laugh this DVD is definitely for you. As Max said 'a New Year a new body.' Although I have found some problems with this DVD, a think that maybe if there were more of Max and Paddy in the camper van and less workout then I think it maybe be more appealing to a wider audience. Although the workout is funny it is maybe a little to long and repetitive.

Generally "The Power of Two" is a good laugh for anyone looking for a funnier workout DVD. The exercises are easy to follow and perform. This makes it even better as it really is a great workout for 'anybodies body' but overall the best part of "The Power of Two" is that the comedy is mixed with fitness and they go together like Magnet and Steel.

BONUS FEATURES

Exclusive Brain Potter workout live from the Phoenix Club
This workout it performed by Max and Paddy's old boss. He sings a song and we see a small workout from him. Also a surprise event that is quite humorous. Brian Potter used as a weight! This feature is only very short but is worth a watch.

Max and Paddy's power of two tips
Max and Paddy give you a couple of tips on clothes, food and general exercise. This is also a short feature but is also defiantly worth a watch. Nothing is taken seriously but at the end of the day that what makes these features funny.

OVERALL

The features are pretty funny but there are not as many features as there should be. This would have just made the DVD a little bit better and made it a good value for money. The menus are pretty good especially after selecting a title and seeing Max and Paddy jumping up doing Kung Fu kicks and making totally bizarre noises. Like I said before a good watch but defiantly for someone who is after getting fit and hoping for a laugh while working out.
