Solving crimes in the Florida sunshine has made CSI: Miami one of the most popular shows in the world but can the programme keep this up for a fourth season?

The crime scene investigations lead by Horatio Cane and his team have captivated audiences around the world for three seasons. Characters have come and gone and new members have joined the team but the thing that makes the Miami version of CSI different from the ones set in Las Vegas and New York is still there in abundance, the action. The show's action quota has been upped again for this season but something else has been added that has been sadly missing from all of the CSI shows, a continuing storyline.

For the forth season of 'CSI: Miami', Horatio finds love and makes some enemies at the same time and this is going to affect all of the team. When Horatio meets Eric Delco's sister Marisol, there is an instant connection but their newfound relationship is noticed by local crime syndicate, the Mal Noche and they will stop at nothing to stop Horatio's investigations. This builds up through the later half of the fourth season and leads to a dramatic finale that will have repercussions for the upcoming fifth season.

This continuing story arc is backed up with an increased action quota for the season. As well as the confrontations with the Mal Noche, Horatio's nemesis Walter Resden returns to torment the CSI team and the crimes become more ambitious. Also the visual style of the programme has been upped with even more slow motion, quick cuts and fancy transitions, making the show a lot showier than any of the other CSIs.

The fourth season of 'CSI: Miami' keeps up the momentum of previous three and then pushes it into a whole new gear. Making itself standout from the other two shows in the franchise, this is the action show of the trio and one that needs the smallest about of concentration to enjoy, and that is probably its appeal

PICTURE & SOUND

Presented in Anamorphic Widescreen 16x9 with Dolby Digital 5.1, the series looks great.

BONUS FEATURES

Creating Feature Television
Executive producers Ann Donahue, Sunil Nayor, Don Tardino and Elizabeth Devine, writers Ilby Modrovich, Barry O'Brien and John Haynes, director Eagle Egilsson, executive story editors Corey Miller and John Haynes take you through the full production of a show. Covering the episode 'Driven' and split into three parts entitled 'The Concept, Script and Pre-Production of CSI: Miami', 'Production of CSI: Miami' and 'Post-Production of CSI: Miami', the documentary covers all aspects of the show's creation from the original idea through to the completion of the visual effects for the show. This is a fascinating insight into the production of a hit TV show.

OVERALL

With only on extended featurette, the DVD treatment for 'CSI: Miami Season Four: Part 2' is a little disappointing. The lack of any commentaries for the episodes, especially after previous seasons had these will come as a great disappointment to fans of the show. The documentary is very good however, but it doesn't make up for the lack of any other special features.
