"Really? You wanna poke mama bear right now, that seems like a *good* idea?"

Unlucky in love, Jen (Heigl) is taken on holiday to Nice by her parents, with the hope of finding herself the idea man. When she arrives she meets Spencer (Kutcher) it is love at first sight and as the pair spend the whole vacation together, Spencer decides to walk away from his job to be with her. Three years later and the couple are married, living the idyllic lifestyle in suburbia but Spencer’s old job is one that you cannot simply walk away from. When that job was a trained CIA assassin, there are people in the world who want you dead and a $20 million bounty draws a lot of attention.

In Hollywood there is nothing more lovable than a government assassin but can Ashton Kutcher convince you to fall in love with a man with a gun all over again?

A killer can be a loveable character in Hollywood and films like ‘Grosse Point Blank’, ‘RED’, ‘Leon’ and even the James Bond movies have made you fall for leading characters that just happen to kill people for a living. Whether it be for a government agency like the CIA or MI6 or they are a freelance assassin, killing people for a living seems to be a worthwhile job for Hollywood and these killers deserve love just as much as anyone else. The problem is with ‘Killers’ is that you don’t think that for one Ashton Kutcher could be a killer and for another, he does not deserve the lovely Katherine Heigl.

Still better known for his prank show ‘Punk’d’ and been ‘Mr. Demi Moore’, Ashton Kutcher has been trying to be more than just a pretty boy or arm candy for years without much success. Trying really hard to be taken seriously in ‘The Guardian’, ‘Bobby’ and ‘The Butterfly Effect’, Kutcher has been rightly labeled as Rom-Com fodder for most of his career and it is easy to see why. While there is no denying that he is an attractive man and many people find him very easy on the eye, the former ‘That ‘70s Show’ TV star is no actor. As Spencer Aimes we have to believe that he is a brilliant contract killer, a James Bond type who gets paid a lot of money for wet work. Cold and calculated, this all changes when he meets Jen but he, of course, can’t give his job as easy as you may think. The problem is that Kutcher is not convincing in either of the roles, as a killer or a romantic interest, so the movie is struggling from the beginning.

The major plus point is the inclusion of Katherine Heigl however. The actress who can do no wrong at the moment, as see juggles a successful TV role in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and a film career, Heigl is one of the nicest screen presences in Hollywood today. Making any movie she graces all the more watchable because of her presence, as Jen Katherine Heigl makes ‘Killers’ a lot more watchable than it should have been. Add to this always excellent Catherine O’Hara as her mother and a tash-tastic return for Tom Selleck as her father and you have a supporting cast that makes up for Kutcher’s shortcomings but only just.

‘Killers’ is a sugary sweet high concept romantic comedy that is saved from been a disaster by Katherine Heigl, Tom Selleck and Catherine O’Hara. While it does show again that Ashton Kutcher is a rubbish actor, the supporting cast do enough to make this an average and sometimes pleasant watch but don’t expect it to hit the target very often.
