"I guess I've always been good with words"

Missing his own birthday party was the last straw for Catherine (Moore). She is sure that her husband David (Neeson) is having numerous affairs with his students at the university but has no proof of this. Wanting to take measures into her own hands, she hires a young, high-class escort called Chloe (Seyfried) to approach her husband and try and seduce him. When she reports back to her that she has succeeded in making contact with David, Catherine asks Chloe to go as far as she can but is not prepared for the consequences.

The darling of the romantic movie and the girl from ‘Mamma Mia!’, Amanda Seyfried has a career mapped out for her but all actresses want to be taken seriously and this is her chance.

A remake of the 2003 French movie ‘Nathalie…’ about a wife that hires a prostitute to entrap her husband in an affair, ‘Chloe’ might not seam like a vehicle that cinema darling Amanda Seyfried might choose to star in. Better known as a TV actress in ‘Big Love’ and for the hit movies ‘Mean Girls’, ‘Dear John’, ‘Letters to Juliet’ and the mega-hit ‘Mamma Mia’, Amanda Seyfried may be better known as a beautiful, young actress who stars in fluff pieces but there is much more to her than that. Stealing the thunder from Megan Fox in ‘Jennifer’s Body’ was no mean feat and fans and critics like started to take note of her acting talents and ‘Chloe’ gives her the chance to show what she can do.

Sexually charged and filled with deception, mistrust and lust, ‘Chloe’ is a very different movie for Amanda Seyfried. Her role of Chloe, a high class escort who attaches herself to Catherine and her want-away husband David, is one that ‘Mamma Mia!’ may be a little shocked by. This is Amanda as a sexual object and for the most part, predator as she becomes entwined with the Stewart family. Playing along side seasoned and experienced actors Julianne Moore as Catherine and Liam Neeson as David, this role is a major change in direction for the actress and one that she can cope with. The problem is that the story is not as forthcoming as the performances.

With Seyfried, Neeson and Moore on the top of their game, the story of an untrusting wife trying to capture her husband in a lie is one that starts well but then falls into predictability. The twist in the story, that occurs halfway through, changes the film and pulls it into clichéd, Hollywood views on certain sexual behavior and how they would react after been left by the person they love. This pulls down the impact of the story and destroys most of the great work down by the three leading actors.

‘Chloe’ is a missed opportunity for a film to have something to say, instead of clichéd Hollywood nonsense. With Amanda Seyfried revealing more of her acting talent and with some good support from seasoned actors Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore, this is a film ruined by an ending that have you dismayed and disappointed. It is still worth a watch however for the performances alone and it shows how good as actress Amanda Seyfried can be.
