"Has my package arrived yet?"

After Jack Flange (O'Loughlin) robs the Sydney fish market, he posts the money to himself back at his oyster-farming job up river. While he waits for the money to arrive so he can help his handicapped sister Nikki (Harrison), he continues to work on the farm, make friends and even fall in love but when the package doesn't turn up, Jack thinks that someone might have stolen his stolen money.

Independent cinema can through up little character driven gems that you cannot help but enjoy, 'Oyster Farmer' is one of those movies.

Written and directed by Anna Reeves, 'Oyster Farmer' is a simple story about a community full of real, honest and slightly quirky characters that you want to spend time with. The film's biggest selling point is its charm. While the story might be basic, it is one that will keep you guessing until the very delightful ending.

The film starts with what seems like the perfect robbery. After knocking out a security guard with a frozen crayfish while wearing a mask made out of fruit strips, Jack posts his ill-gotten gains to his home address in a prepaid package. He then simply places the crayfish back in its box, eats the mask and heads back to work. Brilliant but he doesn't take into account the small country Australian post office. With $100,000 package just waiting to be delivered somewhere in the system, Jack needs the money to get his disabled sister the best care he can.

It is the community of Oyster Farmers he works with and the small river town they live that makes this movie so charming. We have a bickering couple that have split up and become rival oyster farmers. You have an over bearing father who still wants to run his son's life but he won't listen to him, much to his annoyance. Add to this a beautiful but quirky local girl who has a passion for shoes and a credit card bill that reflects it. There is also a weird and grumpy postman, a sewage collector with a chip on this shoulder and Skip, the local with all the knowledge. Each of these characters are played by gifted Australian actors that you would never have heard of put who like to know more about.

'Oyster Farmer' is a charming small film that you cannot help but enjoy. With characters that you want to want spend time with and a plot that with make you smile, this is movie that you think that is just really nice.
