"Have you ever heard of chaos theory?"

Suspended after a hostage situation went fatally wrong, Det. Quentin Conners (Statham) is called to the scene of a bank robbery when the perpetrator says that he will speak only to him. Reluctantly Capt. Jenkins (Czerny) assigns him to the situation but gives him a new partner in rookie Det. Shane Dekker (Phillippe) but as things escalate Dekker realises that the man behind the heist, known simply as Lorenz (Snipes) has much more planned than just a bank robbery.

Cop thrillers with a twisting and turning plot are nothing new but can 'Chaos' break the theory and deliver something inventive?

Jason Statham's rise to fame in the US has made him one of the most promising talents in the action genre. Even though he started in more comedic, cockney wide boy roles in 'Lock, Stock…', 'Snatch' and 'The Italian Job' remake, it was his role in 'The Transporter' that drew him to the attention of the action watching public. At last the UK had an action star that could hold his own against the American and Asian big hitters but also bring something fresh to the genre.

For this movie, Jason Statham shows that he can act as well as kick butt. It is easy to forget that he is an actor as well as an action star but Statham is just as good as actor as he is at dishing out justice. Another thing he does really well is surround himself with good actors that can bring out the best in him. Joining him this time are Ryan Phillippe and Wesley Snipes but for those expecting the action to be pumped up to another level will be disappointed. Writer/director Tony Giglio decides to not thoroughly utilise his action veterans and push the twisting and turning plot more but for the most part this works.

Heist movies rely on twists and turns to keep you guessing as to if the bad guys will get away with it or the cops will get their man and 'Chaos' succeeds in this aspect. It definitely is a movie that keeps you guessing and even though that some of the plot twists are very predictable, the final revelation isn't the greatest but the repercussions of it is certainly one that will cause a little shock.

'Chaos' is a decent action thriller with enough twists and turns to keep you involved. With another good performance from Jason Statham and good support from Ryan Phillippe, the only let down is the lack of development of Wesley Snipes' character but this doesn't take anything away from what is a decent action thriller.

OVERALL

The complete lack of bonus features for 'Chaos' is a crime. Studios should not release a movie on DVD without any bonus features, as fans now expect a little more from their home entertainment than just a movie.
