"Best friends forever"

Yasmin (Ramos), Jade (Parrish), Sasha (Browning) and Cloe (Shaye) have been best friends for most of their lives but now that they are going to start High School and the most popular girl in school Meredith Dimly (Staub) has other plans for them. She thinks that everyone can be labelled and therefore have their place in the social classes of the school, this means that musician Yasmin, science geek Jade, cheerleader Sasha and soccer star Cloe will have to split up but under all of this pressure can they best friends forever?

The new hit doll franchise heads to the silver screen but can another toy adaptation make the translation to film?

After the success of 'Transformers', numerous hit toys are making the transition to the big screen. Even though this was a common occurrence in the 1980s with numerous toys getting their own animated series and movies as well some live action translations, it is only now that they are starting to make a real comeback but 'Bratz' is one that should have definitely been left on the shop shelf because this is bargain bucket filmmaking.

This is a very basic attempt at a high school movie with absolutely nothing new in an over saturated genre. Here we have four best friends forever who think that nothing will change when they go to high school but this is a placed ruled by the most popular girl and she wants everyone in their own click. Of course when the 'Bratz' arrive they don't want to conform to these new rules but after a run-ins with her, the four friends fall out and conform to rules. Of course a big realisation occurs and the girl's return to been best friends forever and join together to take on the most popular girl in school and break down the social click barriers. Haven't we heard this all before?

The complete lack of originality doesn't stop at the storyline but also extends to the characters. Yasmin, Jade, Sasha and Cloe are so stereo typical and politically correct that they cannot offend anyone. While the young actresses that play them are all watchable and quite talented, Nathalia Ramos, Logan Browning, Janel Parrish and Skyler Shaye never really get the chance to create truly memorable characters. Chelsea Staub has fun as school socialite Meredith Dimly but you have to ask why Jon Voight agreed to be in the movie.

'Bratz' is complete unoriginal and one of the worst examples of High School movies to hit the box office in a long while. With an awfully realised characters and a script that rips off so many movies that have been before, 'Bratz' is a franchise that should have stayed on the toy shelf.
