"It was the best song in the world"

JB (Black) is lost. Ever since he ran away from his rock hating, religious father (Loaf), he has travelled America trying to find the man Ronnie James Dio told him he would meet in a vision. Years later when her arrives on Venice beach in Los Angeles, JB meets a man that he knows is the one. Skilled beyond comprehension in the art of the guitar, Kyle Gass takes it on himself to train JB in the ways of rock. Together they set out to become the greatest band in the world so that everyone will hear the music of Tenacious D.

When it was revealed that JB and KG were heading to the silver screen everybody hoped that the Tenacious D movie would do for rock what Jake and Elwood did for the Blues but can the duo make the greatest movie in the world or just a tribute?

Jack Black and Kyle Gass have become cult legends in the world of rock music. Their debut, self-titled album and the HBO shorts made them firm fan favourites. Effortless mixing comedic lyrics and with the acoustic guitar skills of JB and KG, as well as receiving some acclaimed help from their rock friends including Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters, Tenacious D became firm favourites for their comedy and their music alike.

Since Tenacious D's debut in 1999 Jack Black has become a huge star however. Starring in hits like 'High Fidelity', 'School of Rock', 'Shark Tale', 'King Kong' and 'Nacho Libre', Jack Black has a firm box office favourite giving him the power to bring Tenacious D to the silver screen. Reuniting with his musical brother Kyle Gass and with an accompanying new album, the opportunity to combine music and storytelling to produce a modern rock opera was too hard to pass up. This was Jack Black, Kyle Gass and fellow writer and also the director Liam Lynch's to create a rock version of the classic 'Blues Brothers' movie. All the ingredients are here. A pair of musicians on a holy mission that will put them on a path to greatness, songs that drive the rock opera storyline, guest appearances from movie and music stars and a car chase through the streets of Los Angeles. The potential for comedy is great and the good news is that for the most part, Tenacious D delivers.

Jack Black and Kyle Gass reveal how the D came together and their first step on their path to greatness. Both of them know their band characters inside out, as they are basically playing themselves but they really have fun with their roles. The film reveals both how both JB and KG's childhoods pushed them towards rock and how they were destined to come together to find a pick that make them rock gods.

The plot is over the top and includes appearances by Sasquatch and the Devil himself but what else would you expect from Tenacious D. Throw in Meat Loaf as JB's rock hating father, Ben Stiller as a slightly mad guitar store clerk, Tim Robbins as a pick of destiny obsessed stranger and a barely recognisable Dave Grohl who challenges the D to an contest that they have to win. There are also quite a few more cameos from some of Jack and Kyle's famous friends that you will have fun spotting.

'Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny' successfully combines comedy and music to produce a film that fans will love. It might not be as laugh-out-loud funny as you might have been expecting, airing more on the silly side than highbrow but the songs are hilarious and JB and KG are brilliant. The film definitely rocks for the most part and fans should stay to the very end of the credits to make sure they get every bit of Tenacious D.
