Andie Anderson (Hudson) wants nothing more than to be a serious journalist but she is writing for women's magazine Composure and she is the How to… girl. Her last few articles included How to get out of a speeding ticket and How to plan the perfect wedding. Her latest assignment is "How to lose a guy in 10 days", so all she has to do is get a guy interested in her and then do all the things that women do to drive a man away. Ben (McConaughey) is an advertising exec who wants to move away from sports and sneakers and into the more lucrative accounts such as diamonds. Thinking he does understand women enough to be in charge of such a big account, his boss makes him a bet that he can't make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Later in a bar Andie meets Ben.

Putting a slight twist on the usual rom-com storyline, How to lose a guy in 10 days could cause as many arguments as it does laughs.

This is a great date movie to test the state of your relationship. You can see how many of Andie's put-off habits your girlfriend or wife does, but just don't tell her that she does them. Honestly, you will find yourself laughing while she says, "What is wrong with that?"

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have excellent scene chemistry in their roles. The two really do bounce off each other really well. Kate Hudson, looking more and more like her mother Goldie Hawn, excels in the role of Andie especially when she turns into the girlfriend from hell. McConaughey shows that he can do romantic comedies after the awful Wedding Planner and could be quite a good leading man in the genre, when he gets the right script. He plays cocky very well but he can also to the more charming elements needed to win the girl.

How to lose a guy in 10 days is one of those rare romantic comedies that caters just as much for men as it does for women. The middle act is quite one sided against the fairer sex but they still get to have their lovely-dovey moments. This is a great date movie but if your wife or girlfriend does any of the things that Kate Hudson's character does don't point them, out you could be arguing for weeks.
