Anne Marie (Bosworth) is the best up and coming female surfer in the whole of Hawaii but a near drowning experience three years earlier has put a big dent in her confidence. The annual Pipe Masters championship, which is allowing women competitors in for the first time, is only a week away but despite all her training and the support of her friends Eden (Rodriguez), Lena (Lake) and sister Penny (Boorem), Anne Marie is still bottling out when faced with a big wave.

This movie will make you long for summer, exotic beaches and chance to try surfing for yourself.

The majesty of the Pacific Ocean and the adrenalin rush of surfing the big waves it creates is displayed on the big screen in all its glory. Director John Stockwell has done a brilliant job of putting you right in the middle of the action. As the waves come crashing overhead, you feel that you may even end up getting wet. The photography is stunning showing the action from every conceivable action. The movie captures the beauty of the Hawaiian coastline and the power of the Pacific Ocean while intermixing a great soundtrack and a good-looking cast.

Kate Bosworth creates waves with her lead debut. She is very beautiful and a talented actress to look out for. Most importantly she looks confident on a board for her close-ups and gives the illusion that she could in fact be quite a good surfer. Her support is also good. Michelle Rodriguez moves away from her usual tough roles and has fun with her character. Matthew Davis isn't bad as Annie Marie's love interest and Sanoe Lake and Mika Boorem are fine as her friend and sister.

The movie does have a slightly predictable plot but doesn't have the all out Hollywood ending that you might have been expecting. Also the computer face-mapping technique used to put Kate Bosworth's face on her stunt double during the more complex surfing scenes is a tad obvious in parts.

These faults aside, this is a fun sports movie that captures the rush of surfing superbly. Any film with big waves and bikini babes is well worth watching. Now where do I sign up for surfing lessons?
