At Coolidge College, Van Wilder (Reynolds) is a legend. He looks after the sick, raises money of charities and even employs a personal assistant, Taj (Pen). His main gift however, is that he can throw one hell of a party. All of this changes when Van's rich father (Matheson) finds out that he has been paying for his education for seven years and he hasn't even graduated yet, so he immediately stops the flow of money. With a reporter from the College paper, Gwen Pearson (Reid) following his every move, Van has to come up with a plan to raise the $5,000 a term he needs to pay for his tuition.

Taking all the gross out elements of the American Pie movies and throwing in a big doff of the cap to National Lampoon's Animal House, Van Wilder: Party Liaison is actually quite fun.

Ryan Reynolds makes his big screen debut as the ultimate student who can't face up to a next step, the career. He has great comic timing and a good screen presence making him one to watch for the future. Good support also comes from the always beautiful Tara Reid and Kal Pen as the tremendously funny Taj, who as well wanting to be Van's assistant he wants to become the consummate ladies man. Daniel Cosgrove as the jealous boyfriend is also good. Animal House stalwart Tim Matheson appearance as Van's father is a welcome one, as the nods to the classic college comedy come thick and fast.

There is really nothing new here but it is funny if you enjoy this type of humour. The gags come at a steady flow and most of them hit more than miss. The ending is slightly too nice and predictable but this takes nothing away from the amusing journey it took to get you there. It does make you wish that you could have gone to a party thrown by Van Wilder.
