SOUL SURVIVORS

Starring: Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, Eliza Dushku and Melissa Sagemiller
Writer/Director: Steve Carpenter
Running Time: 85 mins
Certificate: 12

Spending their last night together before they leave for college Cassie (Sagemiller), Matt (Bentley), Annabelle (Dushku) and Sean (Affleck) decide to live it up at one last party. After too much to drink and saying something's that where best kept to themselves the four head home only to end up in a horrific car crash. With dead the three survivors try and cope with life after such a harrowing event. Things get worse for Cassie as she starts seeing things, a masked man from the club, flashbacks from the hospital and most traumatically her dead boyfriend Sean.

When a movie is advertised as from the produces of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 'Urban Legend' the alarm bells should already be ringing. This however is not the teen-slasher fest you might have been expecting but a physiological drama. The problem is that is just tries to hard to imitate much better movie that have gone before it. Mixing together 'Jacob's Ladder' and 'The Sixth Sense' and throwing a teen element into the mix do not an original movie make.

The performances are fine, as you'd expect from the young talent of Wes Bentley (American Beauty) and Casey Affleck (Good Will Hunting) as well as the beautiful and gifted rising star Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) but they are not really given anything to compliment that talent.

Unoriginal and it just tries too hard to be something it isn't, a new twist on the teen-horror genre.
