In the late 1985 rock music ruled America and to Chris Cole (Wahlberg) the band Steal Dragon were everything. The front man in a tribute band, he took his performance very personally, he had to be like Dragon lead Bobby Beers (Flemyng) in everyway and that went for the rest of the band as well. After having too much of his perfectionist tendencies, Chris is replaced by his own band but unbeknownst to him the Steal Dragons are doing the same and he has been chosen to be the new lead singer of the world's largest rock band.

Taking us back to an era when long hair and a bubble perm on grown men was supposed to be hardcore rock and been in the music business meant you took lots of drugs, wreaked hotel rooms and had lots sex with lots of women, this is a movie that doesn't really know what it wants to be. Comedy, spoof, drama or feel good movie, it doesn't know how to categorise itself. The movie has some really good performances though. Jennifer Aniston proves there is much more to her than just 'Rachel' from Friends, Timothy Spall is as good as ever as the sleazy manager Mats but this is Mark Wahlberg's movie. He really puts his heart and soul into his performance and proves that he could have been much more than just a rap singer. Yes the film is over long and the concert scenes are far to stretched out and repetitive, the same songs are repeated every concert, but it is very funny in parts and captures the time period extremely well.

If you remember a time when Aerosmith, Guns & Roses and Bon Jovi were the kings of rock, then this is the movie for you. On the other hand if you are so young that your idea of rock music is Linkin Park or Limp Biscuit then you might get abit lost and not understand what all the fuss was about. Still it worth going to see just to laugh at the big bubble perms, now that is 80's rock music.
