At the John Hughes High School you have you usual teenage shenanigans. Freshman making packs to get laid before graduation, Jocks that bet the most popular guy in school can't turn the most unpopular girl into the prom queen, rival cheerleaders stealing each other's routines, undercover students working for the local paper who just happen to have never been kissed and a manipulative sister who just wants to sleep with her brother. Does any of this sound familiar?

We are gathered here today to mourn the passing of the movie parody/spoof. A genre that at the height of its powers delivered classics like Dr Strangelove, Blazing Saddles, Airplane and Young Frankenstein but has slowly been bludgeoned to death by the likes of Scary Movie, Loaded Weapon 1 and Scary Movie 2. The film that struck the final blow, the one that extinguished any light at the end of the tunnel is Not Another Teen Movie. Currently the most wanted genre killer on the FBI and Interpol databases, this movie is so awful, the death sentence is far too good for it.

Joking aside, and there were more jokes in that opening paragraph of this review than in the entire film, this movie is so bad that even Scary Movie fans will struggle to laugh. This is parody/spoof in its lowest form. You spend the thankfully short 85 minutes of the film just counting how many movies they ripped off, very poorly I might add, and this is your only distraction from the overwhelming sense of boredom this movie generates.

A main cast of nobodies, who probably thought this could be their big break, try their best with the material but there isn't anything there for them to work with. I really feel sorry for Randy Quaid, Melissa Joan Hart and 80s Teen Queen Molly Ringwall for having anything to do with this monstrosity.

All I can say is that the parody/spoof movie is dead. Long may it rest in peace… Please
