A car accident on Mulholland Drive results in a woman (Harring) wandering the streets of Hollywood dazed and confused. Sneaking into a house and then trying to sleep off the effects of the traumatic event she is discovered by Betty (Watts), a young fledgling actress who is staying at the house the woman snuck into. Finding out that the mysterious woman could only recall that she had been in an accident and had no memory of who she was, the two set out to discover her lost life.

David Lynch returns to his weird, surreal world after briefly placing his toe in the pool of normality with The Straight Story. He is the type of filmmaker that grabs you, slaps you about until your confused and disoriented, lets you recover slightly until you think you know what is going on and then gives you another good slapping making you more confused than ever. It is very hard is figure out what his movie is actually about but it is daring and startling all the same.

Based on an aborted TV pilot, Lynch has reworked it into a serial journey into Hollywood, sex, love and obsession that will not be to everyone's taste. The acting performances are not great, while the two lead actresses are certainly great to look at, you can tell they are performing for a TV pilot not a full grown motion picture. If you have a passion for all things David Lynch, you'll love the movie for all its visual flare and distinct surrealism that can only be associated with the cult director. For everyone else this is a confusing movie that throws you in so many directions that you don't know where you are and what you have just watch by the time the credits role.
