1876, Leopold, the third Duke of Albany (Jackman) has been sent to New York by his family to marry a rich American heiress to save the family from ruin. Leopold has other ideas however, and spends his time challenging his intellect through science and inventions. Noticing a strange man, Stuart (Schreiber) following him around, constantly pointing a metal device at him, he pursues him to the uncompleted Brooklyn Bridge. As the two of them tussle they fall off the bridge into the east river and when Leopold awakes the next morning his whole world has changed. You see he has awoken in modern day New York and he is now completely out of his element. His life is even more shaken when he meets Stuart's ex-girlfriend and neighbour Kate (Ryan).

This is another old school, high-concept romantic comedy that is just a nice movie.

Starring the Queen of the Rom-com Meg Ryan, this is a role that she can now play in her sleep. You know the one, the dizzy, career driven, single, thirty-something blonde, who just can't meet the right man. Even though she has passed forty, she is still the same loveable Meg she has always been for the last fifteen years.

The story is nice and not too taxing. Whether you could picture a modern woman wanting to be with a man who comes from a time when women were just trophies, who had babies and had no real rights at all is completely besides the point. Jackman plays his role well however, and the support is good from Schreiber and Meyer.

An ideal date movie, this is just the usual Rom-com stuff that will put a smile on your face and make your heart ever so slightly warmer.
