When Lucy (Spears), Mimi (Manning) and Kit (Saldana) were ten they buried a box containing all their hopes and dreams for the future. Promising to stay friends forever, the three of them made a pledge to open the box at midnight on graduation night. Eight years is a long time however and they have slowly drifted apart. Mimi is pregnant, Kit is the most popular girl in school and Lucy is the year's valedictorian. They still get together to open the box though and Mimi asks them to join her on a road trip to L.A. so she can take part in a talent audition. Kit sees it at as opportunity to visit her boyfriend at UCLA and Lucy thinks she can us it as opportunity to see her estranged Mother who left her and her Father (Aykroyd) fifteen years earlier.

I was expecting this movie to be absolutely awful but I was pleasantly surprised. Britney has made a brave choice in selecting a low budget, character driven teen drama when she could have easily made a big budget, high concept blockbuster with big name support. Here she gets the chance to actually act and not just a useless piece of wood with acting talent to match, like Madonna in her movies.

Yes she does sing in the movie, but this really takes backstage to the story. If anything Britney comes across as just a very talented performer who should turn out more like Jennifer Lopez than Mariah Carey. Her support from Zoe Saldana and Taryn Manning is very good and they really come across as friends.

The whole thing is an above average teen drama that has a few laughs and a feel-good ending that should melt even the coldest heart. Also as an incentive for all the men is that Britney spends most of the film is a cascade of extremely skimpy outfits and underwear, so there is a reason to take a girl to see it.
