Jason Shepard (Muniz) is the master of the little white lie. He uses them all the time to manipulate situations for his own benefit but when he goes too far in trying to get out of doing an English paper, his teacher tells him he either hands a thousand word essay by 6pm or he has to go to summer school. Putting his creativity to good us, Jason writes "Big Fat Liar" and then frantically tries to get to school on time but he didn't anticipate running into Hollywood movie producer Marty Wolf (Giamatti), who gives him a lift to school after his limo hit Jason on his bike. Accidentally leaving his paper in the back Wolf's car, his teacher and his parents don't believe Jason's truthful story and send him to summer school. Things get even worst when he sees on TV that Marty Wolf next movie is called "Big Fat Liar", so he and his best friend Kaylee (Bynes) head to L.A. to get Wolf to admit the truth and help Jason regain his father's trust.

A modern day retelling of "The Boy who cried wolf", this is a fun kids movie that adults won't mind having to sit through.

It could have been a different story if it hadn't been for the Amanda Bynes and Frankie Muniz, from TV's Malcolm in the Middle. The two of them are very talented and make the movie very watchable as they plot their revenge. The star of the show however, is the much-underrated Paul Giamatti who plays the devious, self-centred Marty Wolf with much gusto and is a true blue meanie, in every sense of the word.

While the plot is a mixture of Home Alone and every other kids against mean adults movie, there is enough here to keep the children entertained and the rest of us from becoming bored. Taking a pop at the Hollywood system and giving the stars a chance to life out a kids and a lot of adults fantasy of being let loose in a movie prop department, this a fun eighty seven minutes.
