National Geographic photographer Peter Garrett (O'Donnell) has not climbed since the death of his father two years earlier, after blaming himself for the accident that killed him. This all changes when his sister (Tunney) along with multi-millionaire Elliot Vaughn (Paxton) are trapped inside an ice canyon on the side of K2 with only 22 hours before the cold and altitude kill them. So its up to Garrett and his team to quickly scale the mountain and save the day.

This is standard, no brain required action nonsense which is let down by some really sub-standard special effects. Some of the worse blue screen I have seen in a movie for many years. With all the advances in modern SFX you'd think a major production like this would have hired someone who was competent in the craft. The actors don't even have cold steamy breath, as you'd get in that climate. As for the avalanche scenes, the computer generated parts were very good but the distance shots looked as if they had taken 20 year old National Geographic footage and just cut it in, so you went from pristine modern footage to grainy old stock and back again. At the end of the day all this is just a movie that you leave your brain home to see. It's just not a very good one
