Three loosely connected stories set against the American drug scene. Supreme court judge Robert Wakefield (Douglas) is about to become the new US drug Csar, and as he sets out his plan to combat America’s drug problem, he discovers his own daughter has a drug habit. Helena Ayala (Zeta Jones) awakes one morning to have her husband arrested by DEA officer Montel Gordon (Cheadle) on charges of drug dealing. Javier Rodriguez (Del Toro) is a Mexican police officer going up against the drug cartels in Tijuana.

This is a brilliantly crafted movie based on the Channel 4 programme Traffik, which again showboats Steven Soderbergh undeniable talent. His use of different colour filters to help you differentiate between the three stories shows he is a director on the top of his game. An unbelievable ensemble cast all give rip-roaring performances, and draw you in to the captivating intertwined stories. Each story shows a different aspect of America’s and Mexico’s drug problem, from a national and personal standpoint with a no holds barred approach. Graphically depicting drug suppliers, pushers and users, this movie never shies away from showing the true nature of present day society. It does have the draw back of been a movie that you really have to concentrate on to follow and at just under 3 hours long this can be a bit of a struggle, but you will come out better for it if you can.
