Nick (De Niro) has had enough of 'the Life'. Yes he excels as a burglar, but he just wants to get enough money together so he and his girlfriend Diane (Bassett) don't have to worry any more. When his boss Max (Brando) offers him the chance of one last big score, for a bounty of $4 million, he can't refuse. He will however, have to share his ill-gotten gains with young Jack (Norton), whom having come up with the scheme is reluctant to have Nick on board. This leads to tension been added into the mix in already difficult plan, as the prize is located in Montreal's customs building.

The bringing together of three generations of great method actors is reason alone to see this most. Each one gives a masterful demonstration of their craft, it's just a shame that the material they had to work with isn't up to their illustrious talents. It seems like each of them is trying to act the other off the screen.

According to reports there was a lot of improvisation from the three and in some cases you can really tell, especially in the scenes with Brando and De Niro because they don't seem to flow correctly, forever interrupted by long pauses and looks on concentration.

This is not a bad movie just a very predictable one, as you can figure out the ending about 40 minutes before. Still you seldom get the chance to see a collection of talent this good in one movie, making it well worth the ticket price.
