Ed (Thornton) was a quiet man, who kept himself to himself. A barber in a small town, he had been happy to watch life go by without making any waves. This was until a business opportunity came his way, which offered a new start. Little did he know that this deal would lead to adultery, blackmail, larceny, government conspiracies and murder.

The Coen Brother's return with another cinematic delight. Beautifully shot in black and white, the whole look of the 1940s set period piece has a film-noir feel about it. A brilliantly understated Thornton, who hardly has any dialogue with the other characters, narrates throughout the movie. He succeeds in creating someone that is so inconsequential, no one would ever think he was anything but ordinary. With great support from Coen stalwarts Frances McDormand and Michael Badalucco, with James Gandolfini proving again that he is not just a great TV actor.

Combining brilliant direction, a riveting script and superb acting, the Coen's are without doubt the most consistently excellent moviemakers of their generation, making you long for their new offering every single year.
