During the great depression of the 1930's in Savannah, Golf course owner Adele Invergordon (Theron) has do something spectacular to safe her from the creditors. The answer is the world's greatest exhibition match between the two best players in the world, but the only way the creditors will agree is if a local player plays in the match. That local player is washed up former state champion Rannulph Junuh (Damon), who has never been the same since he returned from the war. Enter caddie Bagger Vance (Smith), who makes him look at his life and past in order to continue with his life and his game.

This is one of those rare feel good movies that make you remember that there is more to life that just a game. Doing the same for golf as Field of Dreams did for baseball, this is a film that can be enjoyed by everyone and seriously loved by anyone whose life is consumed by the game of golf. The performances are marvellous and Robert Redford expertly handles the look and feel of the movie. Evoking feelings of contentment and a greater understanding of golf and its hold on people, this movie is a winner on many levels and should not be missed, especially if you love the game as I do.
