The serenity of the small picturesque town of Waterford in Vermont is overwhelmed when a big Hollywood movie crew move in to make their new picture, The Old Mill. They take over the Hotel, Main Street, the firehouse, the local Dinner and pillage the local play of its actors for extras in the movie. The movie itself is not without its problems either. The main star has a passion for 14 year old girls, the female lead has found God and does not want to do the nude scene, the writer can't write without his lost typewriter and to top it all the town's famous Old Mill, the central location for the whole movie, has burnt down.

This movie is a joy from start to finish. David Mamet writes and directs a truly wonderful ensemble cast in what is a very amusing and extremely smart look at the farcical world of movie making. Filled with priceless one-liners and well-defined characters, this is what you would truly expect a movie production to be like. The self importance, the eccentricities and the loveyness of it all is captured by some great actors sending up some of their less illustrious colleagues and showing how certain parts of the business are truly like.
