1991 East China, CIA agent Tom Bishop (Pitt) is captured during an operation and sentenced to death for espionage. Back at Langley, CIA Headquarters, Nathan Muir (Redford) on his last day before retirement, gets a message about his protégé's predicament, giving him only twenty-four hours to turn the situation around and save Tom's life.

This is a top-notch thriller, with Brad Pitt and Robert Redford firing on all cylinders. Told through flashbacks, as Redford's Muir is questioned about his relationship with his student, the movie slowly builds up a momentum that will kept you captivated until the cleverly written climax. Director Tony Scott turns in another very visual movie, and after Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State, this type of material is his bread and butter.

It is the performances of the two leads however, that brings this movie to a far greater level than it would have been with lesser actors. Mirroring what people see as an already established mentor and pupil relationship, which started with A River Runs Through It, you get the feeling that Redford and Pitt have a real genuine respect for one and other which lets them both shine onscreen.

Thoroughly engaging and very informative in the current state of world unrest, this is a quality Spy thriller that should not be missed.
