In 1971 the state of Virginia creates its first integrated White and Black High School, T.C. Williams. Replacing the schools present American Football coach, Bill Yoast (Patten) with Black coach Herman Boone (Washington), it is hoped that a integrated team will bring together the town and state in a time of racial mistrust.

Based on a true story, this is a predictable tale of initial mistrust and aggression turning into team spirit and friendship. You know how it is going to end as soon as you enter the cinema and it does little to a leave that sense of predictability. This is a shame as the cast is very good but the material they have to work with does not take advantage of their collective talent. It does however paint a simple message that sport can unite a people whatever creed or colour that at the end of the day is a positive statement to make.
