19th Century Cuba, wealthy Coffee plantation owner Luis Antonio Vargas (Banderas) has no time for matters of the heart. After his friends keep telling him that a man of his stature should be married, he orders a bride from America. As the ship arrives in port, he waits to greet the pleasant looking Julia Russell, but is instead greeted with a beautiful woman (Jolie). Explaining that she wanted someone to be interested in her not just her looks, Luis understands and makes her his bride. Excepting Julia into his life, Luis begins to find love for the very first time, but love is never a simple thing.
If you ever wanted to see Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas with their kits well and truly off then this is the movie for you. Other than that you have a basic thriller that never really delivers many surprises.
Banderas's acting skills are never really tested and Jolie is just really there to look extremely beautiful in various states of undress. This makes it an awfully average movie that never really does enough to grab you when the to leads have their clothes on.
