Danny Meehan (Jones) had everything. He was a professional footballer, captain of England, the darling of the advertising game, every woman wanted him and every man wanted to be him. The problem was that drink and gambling had taken its toll and cut his career short after he caught match fixing an England vs. Germany game. Things got worse as he was caught driving under the influence, with out a licence and resisting arrest also didn't help. Sentenced to three years, the first thing Danny is asked by the prision Governor (Hemmings) to get a team of Cons together to play the prision guards. Assembling a motley crew, Danny has his work cut out to beat the efficient and brutal guards.

A remake of the 1974 Burt Reynolds movie, exchanging American Football for proper football this is an extremely fun movie. Vinnie is back to his Lock, Stock… best joined by every actor that has ever appeared in a Guy Ritchie or any other British crime movie. The script, while been abit disjointed in the first half, comes into its own when the football starts and this is when the action and the laughs really get going. The football is very well choreographed making it very natural looking, not forced like many other football movies. The performances, especially from Jason Statham as the Monk, are good, making the film that much more watchable. Without this you could have had a disaster, but this is the cream of young British talent having what looks like, a really good laugh.

The movie is good fun and very watchable but it is a Lads movie. If you go with anyone who really doesn't like the beautiful game then you won't be the most popular person in the cinema, but if you set your stall out early and do your best to tell them what it's about, at the end of the day you will have a good time.
