Everything hits the fan when Jay and Silent Bob discover that Hollywood is making a movie based on the Bluntman and Chronic comic book. You see the writers Holden (Affleck) and Banky (Lee) based the characters on the hapless pair, meaning they have a right to their cut of the deal. But worse thing is that unbeknownst to the two of them, the Internet Movie Forums are giving the characters a downright slagging, so it's up to Jay and Silent Bob to go to Hollywood and stop the movie from been made and save their good name.

This is the fifth and final film in Kevin Smith's New Jersey odyssey and you really have to have seen the other four (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma) to get a lot of the many in-jokes. It is very funny hitting more times than it misses but many of those hits come with knowledge of what has gone on before.

The best thing is that this is a swansong for the fans of Smith's movies and for the first time brings our two cameo heroes to the forefront for their own adventure. The cast, as with his last film Dogma, is filled with guest star appearances, many of the actors playing all the parts they played in the previous four films. The tongue is planted firmly in everyone's cheek, with most of the actors who play themselves, playing up to their off-screen personas. The Goodwill Hunting 2 and Planet of the Apes sequences are brilliant and sight of Shannon Elizabeth and Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) dressed in leather catsuits is worth the admission price alone.

As I said before though, this is really Kevin Smith's thank you to the fans of his movies and for them, it really hits the spot. For everyone else the movie could come across as amusing but slightly confusing.
