After been made at a jewellery heist, Joe Moore (Hackman) just wants to get out the country as quickly as possible. His fence Bergman (DeVito) has other plans and wants Joe and his crew to complete a second, more difficult job before they get paid. As Joe can't leave the country without any money he reluctantly agrees but things are complicated by Bergman's insistence that his nephew, Jimmy (Rockwell) joins the team. With a wild card in his mitts, Joe has to plan everything down to the letter, including the possibility that he maybe betrayed.

This is an extremely well written and superbly acted movie. The dialogue, as it always is with David Mamet's movies, is amazing. The characters bounce phrases off each other that stick in the memory for a very long time. With lines like "he's so cool, when he goes to bed, sheep count him" you just can't go wrong.

The ensemble cast, all good actors in there own right, come together to bring an air of distrust and menace to the criminals they portray. We know the fact that we are supposed to be routing for a group of very bad people is wrong, but you can't help been drawn to these characters. With twists and turns galore as one plan is circumvented by another, you will be glued to the screen until the dramatic conclusion.

A joy to watch and a lesson to all those lesser crime based movies on how it should be done.
