GREENFINGERS

Starring: Clive Owen, Helen Mirren, David Kelly and Natasha Little

Director: Joel Hershman

Running Time: 91

After been transferred to an open prison, Colin (Owen) is finding it hard to adjust to a less restricting environment. This is until aging inmate Fergus (Kelly) takes him under his wing by helping him discover his true calling, gardening. Their exploits in the prison garden bring them to the attention of famous gardener Georgina Woodhouse (Mirren) who enters them into the national gardening competition at Hampton Court.

Based on a true story, this is just a really pleasant movie that does little more than just warm the cockles. The performances from the cast are very good, especially from David Kelly but it is the script that doesn't really deliver as many laughs as you may have been expecting. Saying that it is still a lot better than the glut of extremely average British movies we have had over the last few months and it has more warmth and serenity than all of them put together.
