When thieves break into a severely well protected volt in the old ruins of Carfax Abbey, they expect to find riches beyond their wildest dreams. When all they find is a solid sliver coffin, they decide to cut their loses and return to the US. Little did they know, that the reason for the extreme security was nothing they could have imagined. You see Mathew Van Helsing (Plummer), grandson of the late Dr.Van Helsing, owns Carfax Abbey, and the contents of the coffin has been guarded by his family for over 100 years. Now away from the sacred ground he was buried in, his powers will start to return and Dracula (Butler) will walk the Earth again.

I really do like Vampire movies, and this is the best one in a very long time. It takes the character and mixes the modern with old Christian beliefs and brews up an extremely well done retelling of a classic tale. At first you think it is just another attempt to make money from an established name, but it does take the character forward, by explaining some of the reasoning's behind his background in a very intelligent way, making the end of the movie a very surprising joy. A good cast and even an acceptable performance from Jonny Lee Miller, takes this movie a cut above the usual slasher movies we have had to endure over the last few years.
