CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL

Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Jay Hernandez and Bruce Davison

Director: John Stockwell

Running Time: 99 mins

Carlos's life was all set out for him. He had won himself a scholarship to Pacific High and had to travel two hours a day from his downtown Latino neighbourhood in Los Angeles to reach the school. His grades were very good, he was a star in the American football side and he was doing everything right to fulfil his dream of going to the Naval fight academy. This all changed when he met Nicole (Dunst). She was everything he shouldn't be. She partied all night, drunk heavily but had a sadness about her that he couldn't quite account for. As love draws him ever closer, Carlos is willing to give it all up just to be with her.

This is not your normal teen movie. The story has a high morel centre that runs true throughout the film. The performances from the two leads are exceptionally good, with Kirsten Dunst really showing her true potential as a young actress who can command your attention. It is this that really keeps you interested in the characters and you really want to see what happens in the end. Ok, the issues it raises might not really appeal to an older audience, but it does cover the need for love and acceptance for who and what you are, which we all need whatever generation you are from.
