In 1959 during a fierce North Wind, Vianne (Binoche) and her daughter arrive in a small French village. Leasing the an empty shop from Armande (Dench), Vianne sets to work turning the decrepit old shop into a cornucopia all things chocolate. This causes a few ramifications with the small devoutly Catholic populace, as they plan to open in the middle of Lent.

Nicely written and beautifully acted, this is one of those small character-driven whimsical movie, that does just enough to keep you interested but nothing much more. The main thing it does it to make you want to do is, go the Thorntons (who supplied the main star of the movie, the chocolate itself) and clear out their entire stock. Quite predictable but extremely pleasant in its approach, this is movie for those of you who like just to sit and watch a glimpse into the idiosyncrasies and quirkiness small town life.

Deleted Scenes, "The Comte Collects the Rent", "Are we going to move again?", "Milking the Cow", "Cat Food", "Boule Game", "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow", "Armande´s Letter", "The making of Chocolat", Production Design Featurette", "The Costume of Chocolat" & Audio Commentary by Director Lasse Hallstrom and Producers David Brown, Kit Golden and Leslie Holleran
