Smoking, drinking, slightly over-weight thirty-something spinster Bridget Jones (Zellweger) is determined to turn her self around. Having spent Christmas at her parents leftover turkey party been insulted by Mark Darcy (Firth), a man who she has not seen since she was four and New Years Eve in her flat listening to depressing love songs, she decides to take some positive action and detail it all in her newly purchased diary.

Adapted from Helen Fielding's best selling novel this is this year British Rom-Com hit. Having not read the book, I don't know how faithful a translation it is, but the end result is a charming, sometimes hysterical, romantic movie that will be the talk of the many a conversation for many weeks to come. Zellweger, after initial disappointment at casting, excels in the role and her accent, not on par with Gwyneth Paltrow however, is quite good and never really lapses. Colin Firth and especially a devilish Hugh Grant, make this a sure fire hit with both the women, who feel like and emphasize with Bridget and the men, who actually get abit of insider knowledge into that great mystery of life, the mind of the woman.
