In the late 70s and throughout the 1980's, one man was responsible for 85% of the supply of cocaine coming into the United States, that man was George Jung (Depp). Starting off as a high rolling pot dealer in the late 60's, George upgraded to cocaine after meeting Diego in prison, while serving a two-year term for smuggling. Diego introduced him to Pablo Escobar, Columbia's major Drug lord and the millions started to roll in.

This autobiographical movie covers the ups and downs of George's shady drug dealing career, interweaving extravagance with despair, unbelievable wealth with bankruptcy, and Love with loneliness, all in a way that never really glamorises or condones his actions. The problem is even with the excellent performances and the visual flare of Ted Demme, the movie never really grabs your attention the way other autobiographical like Malcolm X, The Hurricane and Erin Brockovich did. I don't know if it's the subject matter or the story itself but you end up not really caring one way or the other what happened to George Jung.
