ANGEL EYES

Starring: Jennifer Lopez, James Caviezel and Sonia Braga

Director: Luis Mandoki

Running Time: 104 mins

Chasing down a perpetrator after a drive by shooting, Chicago Cop Sharon (Lopez) is jumped down an ally and has her gun turned on her. With the criminal standing over her with the gun pointing in her face, Sharon is saved by Catch (Caviezel), who jumps out of the shadows to tackle the aggressor. Thanking him for saving her life, the too lonesome souls starting getting closer, only to have their chequered pasts invade their present happiness.

Billed as J Lo's attempt to win Oscar consideration, this is an extremely average movie that leaves her far from contention. Yes it is a far more challenging role that Jennifer is used to, be the material never really takes you anywhere new. The film just plods along and is so obvious nothing really comes as a surprise, making it an extremely formulaic romantic drama. Caviezel seems to be playing the same role and look he had in Pay it Forward early in the year, and nothing really challenges the skill he showed in The Thin Red Line. What you are left with is a movie that is so inconsequential that it will fade from memory on the journey home from the cinema.
