Fifteen-year-old gifted writer William Miller (Fugit) has aspirations of being a music journalist. After writing for a local San Diego magazine, William is contacted by Rolling Stone to write a piece on up and coming rock band Stillwater. So as his unenthusiastic and overly protective Mother (McDormand) reluctantly lets him go, William enters the world of early 70's rock and roll to find drugs, star tantrums, groupies, love and most of all the music.

This is a joy of a movie. Reawakening a forgotten time of flairs, long hair and the days before Disco when the rock music of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and David Bowie was played on every young persons turntable. Writer/Director Cameron Crowe captures the time perfectly in this semi-autobiographical movie based on some of his own experiences as a young journalist. The performances of the cast are first rate, with Kate Hudson as groupie or as the movie calls them Band-Aids, Penny Lane lighting up the screen when ever she graces it. With a great sound track and an attention to detail that recreates the time with pinpoint accuracy, it will stimulate the minds of people who lived through it and make the rest of us want to be there.
