When rouge IMF agent Sean Ambrose (Scott) steals a deadly virus and plans to sell to the highest bidder, it is up to Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team to stop this “mother of all nightmares”.

That is basically the plot. It is the smallest of catalysts used to join together more and more lavish action set pieces, which is really what this film is all about. Ok Tom Cruise reinvents himself as an action hero, doing all his own stunts in a very spectacular fashion, but even this does not take away the fact that nothing really happens. As numerous Bond films, True lies and especially last years The Matrix have shown how action films can draw you in, this movie just really is Cruise’s chance to be Bond. He has a boss that hands him his assignment (Anthony Hopkins) like “M”, a gadget man (Ving Rhames returning as Luther from the first movie) like “Q”, a love interest that needs saving (Thandie Newton) and his nemesis is and old friend and fellow agent (Scott) gone bad like in “Goldeneye”. Add to this John Woo’s usual slow motion ballet approach to action, which he does in all of his films (Face off, The Killer etc.) and what you get is a movie you will probably forget about two days after you watched it.
