Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce) has no short-term memory. After an incident that leads to the death of his wife and him with a head injury, Leonard is left with a condition that makes him unable to create new memories. Only remembering things for a moment, he has resorted to taking pictures, making notes and having important facts tattooed onto his body. Leonard now relies on these and his own instincts to help him in his quest to catch his wife's killer.

Beginning with the end of the movies and then shown in revealing flashbacks, this movie can be slightly confusing at times as you learn what has happened to get us to this bloody conclusion. Confusion aside, this is an original movies that you really have to follow to get the most out of it. The cast is first class with Carrie Ann Moss and Joe Pantoliano providing amazing support, but this is Guy Pearce's movie. He has come along way since his days as Mike on 'Neighbours', and along with L.A. Confidential, his shows what a good actor he is and is quite able to carry a movie. With concentration, this is a great movie but any lapse and you will not know what is going on.
