The Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith DVD promises an experience that will thrill "Star Wars" fans worldwide, says Jim Ward, the DVD's executive producer and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd.

"The fact that 'Revenge of the Sith' was produced digitally means that the picture and sound on this DVD are truly extraordinary," Ward said. "On top of that, the hours of bonus material allow fans to explore the movie in a multitude of ways. For this final 'Star Wars' movie, we wanted to deliver a DVD that would capture the excitement and fun of 'Revenge of the Sith,' and we hope that fans will agree that we've accomplished that."

The centerpiece of the bonus materials is "Within a Minute," a newly produced feature that offers unprecedented insight into the complexity of creating a single 49-second sequence of "Revenge of the Sith." From pre-production artists to costume designers, from camera operators to make-up artists, from sound designers to musicians, "Within a Minute" showcases the massive amount of work that goes into one short sequence. This one-of-a-kind journey was created from more than 600 hours of material gathered throughout the process of making "Revenge of the Sith" and is hosted by Episode III's producer, Rick McCallum.

"There are hundreds of names and jobs in the end credits of 'Revenge of the Sith' -- but hardly anyone understands just what all of those people do and what an enormous contribution they make to the movie," said Tippy Bushkin, the documentary's director. "By focusing on less than 60 seconds of the movie, 'Within a Minute' is almost a 'mini-film school' in which Rick and George examine the entire process of making Episode III in a fun and fascinating way."

In addition to "Within a Minute," the "Revenge of the Sith" DVD offers a host of special features that illuminate the process of creating the epic interstellar adventure. Among them are deleted scenes that bring new perspective to the Star Wars saga.

"The deleted scenes include one that fans have been waiting a long time to see, one that shows Yoda arriving on the swamp-planet of Dagobah, where Luke Skywalker meets him in 'The Empire Strikes Back,'" Ward said. "George worked with Industrial Light & Magic and Episode III Producer Rick McCallum to finish most of these scenes with complete visual effects and sound design, and they bring a new perspective to the movie."

The DVD bonus features also include a newly recorded audio commentary featuring Lucas and key members of the movie's crew. In addition, the DVD offers a pair of brand-new featurettes -- "The Chosen One" and "It's All for Real" -- that look at two of the movie's most popular aspects: Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader; and the creation of the amazing stunts in the climactic lightsaber duel between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The "Revenge of the Sith" DVD will also offer access to a special Xbox-playable demo of two entire levels from LucasArts' "Star Wars Battlefront II."

The DVD Debate has managed to get hold of the covers for the trilogy and they are in keeping with DVD releases of Episode 1 and 2.

The films include new commentary tracks, featuring insights from George Lucas, director Irvin Kershner, actress Carrie Fisher, sound designer Ben Burtt, and Industrial Light & Magic's Dennis Muren.

Here is the list of bonus features that will be on the extra DVD. (From the Official Star Wars UK press release Thanks to R2-Project)

On DVD for the First Time on 20th September 2004 STAR WARS TRILOGY Brings New Excitement, Insight and Adventure to the Most Highly Anticipated DVD in History

More than 10 Hours of Bonus Materials Join the Classic, Newly Remastered Films in a Four-Disc Set that Includes a Brand-New, Feature-Length Documentary and Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes

Already among the best-selling titles of 2004 – more than four months before its release – the STAR WARS TRILOGY comes to DVD for the first time ever on 20th September 2004.

No. 1 on Amazon.com’s best-seller lists in the U.S., Canada, Germany and the U.K, the four-disc DVD set from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment includes more than 10 hours of entertainment and extraordinary picture and sound quality. “Knowing how excited Star Wars fans are about this release, we’re working very hard to make the films look and sound spectacular and to deliver a DVD collection that will be truly memorable,” said Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution at Lucasfilm Ltd., and the DVD’s executive producer.

Available in widescreen, the three films in the STAR WARS TRILOGY – Episode IV A New Hope, Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI Return of the Jedi – have been newly restored and remastered by renowned Lowry Digital Images and are presented with 5.1 THX sound. Each film also includes new commentaries by George Lucas and cast and crew members, including director Irvin Kershner, actress Carrie Fisher, sound designer Ben Burtt and Industrial Light & Magic’s Dennis Muren.

A fourth disc in the collection includes an additional four hours of added-value material that brings remarkable new depth and insight into the making of the three films and the broader Star Wars Saga.

The cornerstone of this fourth disc is EMPIRE OF DREAMS: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy. The two-and-a-half hour documentary traces the evolution of Star Wars from a low-budget, labor-of-love space saga to a movie phenomenon that defied the odds and reinvented the rules. At its core, EMPIRE OF DREAMS tells the story of an independent filmmaker who had to innovate and invent an entirely new way of creating motion pictures.

Featuring all-new interviews with Lucas and more than 40 members of the cast and crew from all three films, EMPIRE OF DREAMS also includes appearances by a host of filmmakers and media personalities, along with never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the three films. This new documentary brings viewers the most comprehensive look at a pioneer who triumphed against the odds to create an enduring modern fairy tale that has captivated the world.

Additionally, the fourth bonus disc offers a host of other exciting features, including:

Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope was originally released in 1977 and has a running time of 125 minutes. Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back was released in 1980 and is 135 minutes. Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi was released in 1983 and has a running time of 130 minutes.

After releasing three prototype packaging designs, LucasFilm has released the final version of the packaging and I have to say that I don't like it as much as the Final Conflict design (see below). It looks too similar to the VHS release of the Special Editions (The full screen edition is in Gold). Speaking of special editions, rumours are spreading again that George Lucas is going to change the movies again for the DVD release. Can't we just have the original versions please...

KamuiWeb.com has managed to get hold of three prototype package designes for the release. Each of them has a name - The Final Conflict, Jedi vs. Darkside and The Imperial Collection. It is not known if these are the final designs or just mock ups but if I had to choose it would have to be the Final Conflict (The first one).

Here is what Starwars.com had to say about the release...

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi will be available in a four-disc set that includes a bonus disc filled with all-new special features -- including the most comprehensive feature-length documentary ever produced about the Star Wars saga and never-before-seen footage from the making of all three films. REVENGE IS COMING

The title for Star Wars Episode III has been revealed at this years Comic Con. The title is...

This is by far the best of the prequel trilogy titles and shows that the third and final film in the Star Wars saga will be the dark epic people are expecting.

Lucas Film released a statement and a short synopsis for the movie

Lucasfilm says the Sith are masters of the dark side of the Force and the sworn enemies of the Jedi. They were all but exterminated by the Jedi a thousand years ago, but the evil order continued in secrecy. They operated quietly, behind the scenes, acting in pairs - a Master and an Apprentice - patiently biding their time before they could take over the galaxy. In "Episode III," they'll finally exact their revenge on the Jedi.

"For some time now, the naming of a new Star Wars movie has taken on some special meaning among core fans, who love to take part in guessing games before a title is announced, and then engage in debate once it is," said Steve Sansweet, Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm. "Let the debates begin."

"Revenge of the Sith" picks up after three long years of relentless fighting, when the Clone Wars are nearly at an end. The Jedi Council dispatches Obi-Wan Kenobi to bring General Grievous, the deadly leader of the Separatist droid army, to justice. Meanwhile, back on Coruscant, Chancellor Palpatine has grown in power. His sweeping political changes transform the war-weary Republic into the mighty Galactic Empire. To his closest ally, Anakin Skywalker, he reveals the true nature of power and the promised secrets of the Force in an attempt to lure him to the dark side.

Following the immense success of the first 20 chapters of the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Cartoon Network will continue the saga with five new expanded chapters beginning March 21, 2005.

The Clone Wars animated series starts again on Cartoon Network and UK Toonami on March 26th 2004 with 10 new episodes.

A major villain from Episode III is to be introduced into the Star Wars Universe via the micro-toons. His name is General Grievous. Here is what the official website had to say about the new character...

"In Attack of the Clones, we saw that former Jedi Count Dooku was the political leader behind the Separatists movement and instigator of the Clone Wars," says Producer Rick McCallum. "In Episode III, we'll meet General Grievous, the military leader of all the Separatist armies. He's part alien and part robot. Grievous is a master strategist and the greatest hand-to-hand Jedi killer the galaxy has ever known."

Zap2it.com and Coming Soon.net have posted a look at the Clone Wars animated series coming soon to Cartoon Network. Here is a snippet...

Mark Lazarus, president of the Turner Entertainment Group, which oversees Cartoon Network, says he received the tape of the first episode Wednesday night. "We're really excited about it," he says. "So, with Mr. Lucas' consent we are previewing it."

The clips TV critics saw contained finished animation but temporary sound and music tracks. They included several impressive battle and flight sequences, and a scene in which Chancellor Palpatine puts Anakin in charge of a clone-trooper regiment, over the objections of Yoda and Obi-Wan. The Imperial March plays over one scene of marching troops, although that may not make it to the final version. Characters are drawn to resemble the actors who ! play them in the film, although Tartakovsky's style is evident as well.

"Clone Wars" will continue the story laid out in "Episode II," although it doesn't appear that it will establish plot points for "Episode III" as "The Animatrix" did for the "Matrix" sequels. Lazarus does say that the shorts could lead to "a more longer-form partnership between Cartoon Network and the 'Star Wars' franchise."

Here is the rest of The Clone Wars news

Ain't it Cool News has posted a confirmation that LucasFilm are working on a Clones Wars animated series for Cartoon Network. The series will be computer generated and will show all the battles between the end of Attack of the Clones and the rumoured final battle of the Clone wars at the beginning of Episode III. This is really exciting news for Star Wars fans as it is Lucas's first trip back to animation after Droids and The Ewoks back in the 1980s. Here is what they had to say...

20 Animated "Clone Wars" Serial Shorts to Appear on Cartoon Network in 2003-2004

Cartoon Network and Lucasfilm Ltd. announced today a partnership to create Star Wars: Clone Wars, a series of 20 animated shorts that will air on Cartoon Network in 2003-2004 between other programming. Star Wars: Clone Wars continues the saga where the live action feature film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones left off - at the beginning of the Clone Wars, an epic civil war that pits the old Republic against a vast separatist movement led by the forces of evil. Each episodic short will be two- to three-minutes in length and will air exclusively on Cartoon Network at regularly scheduled times during the network's regular programming beginning later this fall.

Clone Wars will be produced at Cartoon Network Studios by a team led by Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator of Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory. As Clone Wars unfolds the valiant Jedi Knights lead the Republic's Clone Army against many new and ruthless adversaries across the galaxy. These new characters, epic battles and intricate stories will add an exciting new dimension to the Star Wars saga. "We are incredibly excited to be working with Lucasfilm in creating an animated story that extends one of the world's most beloved entertainment properties," said Sam Register, senior vice president of development for Cartoon Network. "Cartoon Network's creative team will work hand-in-hand with Lucasfilm to make sure that our common vision for Clone Wars thrills Star Wars fans around the world."

"Genndy Tartakovsky and the team at Cartoon Network are tops in their field," said Howard Roffman, president of Lucas Licensing. "Their work on Samurai Jack shows that they can tell an epic story in a unique way, lavishing equal attention on dramatic battle scenes as well as the dramatic development of the characters."

BRIDGING THE GAP

Darth Sidious himself Ian McDiarmid has spoken to ITV Teletext about his recently finished filming of Episode III. Here is what he had to say...

"You'd imagine that my character has been rather deskbound in the past but this time he will get to take part in the action. I can't give the story away as George Lucas would kill me but I have been engaged in far more physical activities than any of the other films.

"I have found myself sliding down chutes at speed and landing on heaps of rubber, it's been a completely new experience for me. I haven't had to go down the gym to get fit for the scenes but I did need a few rehearsals to get up to speed.

"Most of my scenes have been with Anakin Skywalker (played by Hayden Christensen) who eventually becomes Darth Vader."

McDiarmid has just returned to Britain after three months of filming in Australia. He said: "I did get recognised quite a lot there because of the movie. When I went into restaurants they were all asking how Ewan McGregor was.

"I got on very well with the locals as being a Scot we have a very similar sense of humour to the Aussies."

"But even though I've been in four Star Wars films I'm glad that I don't get mobbed by fans. I try to keep fame in proportion, sometimes people ask me for my autograph but I can still travel on public transport without being bothered and I hope it stays that way." McDiarmid added that Star Wars: Episode III won't be released for "another 18 months or so".

It also stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Christopher Lee and Samuel L Jackson. He went on: "There's a lot of anticipation about the movie and I think it will be worth the wait."

Hayden Christensen has talked to Latino Review about his seconding as the future Darth Vader in Episode III. Here is a snippet...

Nick Gilliard (the stunt coordinator) has said the light saber battles in the film will be the greatest so far. That’s a bold statement once you’ve seen Yoda and Count Dooku go at it. Can you confirm this?

Hayden: "I will say, on the record, the final fight sequence in this film will, in my opinion, and not having seen any of it cut together, should surpass any fight sequence that has been put on film so far. It’s the longest, I can’t give you specifics, but it is quite the bad-assed fight scene. Nick Gilliard has done an amazing job instilling an arc of story in the fight. It justifies, because you know Anakin and Obi-Wan have it out, but Anakin is the chosen one-he is supposed to be the best. But he comes out on the shorter end of the stick in the fight. It justifies it really nicely as the fight progresses."

Writer/Director George Lucas and his creative team are working on bridging the gap between Episode III and IV. As well as trying to make the style differences more similar to Episode, there is also a feel of the loss of the old ways to be replaced by what is to come in Episodes IV, V and VI. This is proved by a recently released pictures of Anakin Skywalker and Senator Palpatine, which appeared in the French LucasFilm magazine. Also the latest edition of Star Wars Homing Beacon had this to say on the subject (Thanks to Coming Soon!)

Many of the elements of Episode III are harbingers of things to come in the original trilogy. The Costume Department has worked diligently to not only foreshadow future events, but also give the final Star Wars chapter its own distinct style. Though the film is the most visually diverse of the saga, spanning the largest number of locales and cultures, there will definitely be costumes that look familiar. "There's a link of characters between Episodes III and IV," says Trisha Biggar, Costume Designer. "In terms of quality, there will always be a difference between how things look in Episode III and Episode IV, just because we have a great deal more time to achieve things than the people in Episode IV did. But there's always a mind to keep the flow from III into IV, and that's been achieved in color and feel and referring back to Episode IV for the characters who have continuity, rather than trying to copy exactly any particular costumes from Episode IV."

For Obi-Wan Kenobi, his role as a Jedi pretty much defines his overall look, but there is room for subtle progression from The Phantom Menace to A New Hope. "We started in Episode I with a younger version of the costume from Episode IV. We kept that for Episode II. For Episode III, a couple of years have passed, and we changed his costume to blend into Episode IV. We changed the color of his undershirt and the color of his trousers, so he's very slightly becoming a little more like the old Obi-Wan."

Anakin Skywalker clearly has the most profound transition from the prequel to the original trilogy, but the evolution of his Jedi robes from Attack of the Clones to his garb in the new installment is more understated than his future look of dark armor. "We changed his cloak shape, and gave him a new slightly more Jedi-like cloak this time," says Biggar. "We changed his colors, and we darkened them all down, hinting at what he's going to become. Although he was quite dark brown before, there were some lighter aspects. This time, we've really taken shades of dark brown to give him a dark outline even though he's still a Jedi."

Though Senators Padmé Amidala and Bail Organa are absent from the original films, they continue to evolve Episode III, building upon their looks from the previous chapter. "In Episode I, Padmé was very formal and very ceremonial, and that became slightly relaxed for Episode II. In Episode III, we see her in a couple of business-like -- but not heavily ceremonial -- costumes, so generally her look is softer, and we get a chance to see her in a more relaxed state. I think even more relaxed now than she was in Episode II -- softer, more feminine," explains Biggar.

"Though we saw Bail Organa in Episode II as a Senator, George wanted him to look slightly more high tech in a way," she says. "We ended up using more metal pieces in his costumes. He has a high-tech metal comlink, and his ceremonial Senate costume has a beautiful metal collar piece."

As the first round of shooting has wrapped in Australia, IGN FilmForce and The Force.net takes a look at how the production is going and reveals that a character from A New Hope will be making an appearance in Episode III. Peter Cushing's character Imperial Grand Moff Tarkin, will appear as a younger version of himself, using make-up not CG to achieve the effect and as you can see he looks spot on.
