ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE

Mandy Lane. Beautiful. Untouched. High school royalty waiting to be crowned. Since the dawn of Junior year, men have tried to possess her. Some have even died in reckless pursuit of this 16 year-old Texas angel.

Chloe and Red invite Mandy out to Red's family ranch for the weekend. Mandy sees it as an excellent opportunity to cement her new friendships. The boys see it as an opportunity to finally get with Mandy Lane. Driving across the Texas landscape, the kids begin to gently chip away at the wall that surrounds her. Joints are smoked. A keg is stolen off a beer truck. Pills are crushed to fine powder and inhaled. Mandy observes it all with the gentle interest of a foreign tourist. And they love her for it.

At the ranch, all the boys start to make their move - each one hoping to be the first to attain the unattainable Mandy Lane. However, as night falls and the booze, drugs, and hormones take over, things are said and advances made which can never be reversed. Suddenly, sweet Mandy finds herself pit in a brutal struggle for survival against someone whose interest she has rejected. Forget reading, writing and arithmetic. In high school, learning to be yourself and not succumbing to peer pressure is the ultimate test. And this is one exam that Mandy is determined not to fail.

Starring Amber Heard Michael Welch Whitney Able Edwin Hodge Aaron Himelstein Luke Grimes Melissa Price and Anson Mount and directed by Jonathan Levine, 'All the Boys love Mandy Lane' opens in the UK 31st August 2007.

ANGELA'S HOME MOVIE

An interesting concept for what could be a low budget gem from Anhendenia Films. Young writer/director Evan Jacobs describes the movie in his own words...

"I had always wanted to make a movie about a hustler. A bullsh*tter. A guy who scams and sweet talks but doesn’t have a pot to piss in. Yet he’s actually working toward something of a noble end. So I came up with this idea about a gambler who recently got in touch with a 5 year old daughter he has never known. In fact, he doesn’t even know if she’s 5 or 6! Her name is Angela. This guy decides that, rather than meet her cold, he’s going to make her a video of his life so that she can she him and sort of know who he is before they meet. This would only be the beginning because, shortly after “production” starts on ANGELA’S HOME MOVIE, the gambler's life falls apart."

The extremely informative website goes into the film's production, the writing process and inspirations for the part.

THIS IS ENGLAND

This is England won Best British Independent Film and the Most Promising Newcomer Award (Thomas Turgoose) at the British Independent Film Awards. This follows on from the Jury Prize awarded at the Rome Festival and Mark Herbert’s Dunhill award at the London Film Festival.

This Is England, is the story of a summertime school holiday, those long weeks between terms where life changing events can take place. It’s 1983 and school is out. 12-year-old Shaun (Thomas Turgoose) is an isolated lad growing up in a grim coastal town, whose father has died fighting in the Falklands war. Over the course of the summer holiday he finds fresh male role models when those in the local skinhead scene take him in. With his new friends Shaun discovers a world of parties, first love and the joys of Dr Martin boots. Here he meets Combo (Stephen Graham), an older, racist skinhead who has recently got out of prison. As Combo’s gang harass the local ethnic minorities, the course is set for a rite of passage that will hurl Shaun from innocence to experience.

The ensemble cast includes newcomer Thomas Turgoose playing the role of Shaun, Stephen Graham (Gangs of New York), Jo Hartley (Dead Man’s Shoes), Joe Gilgun (‘Emmerdale’), Andrew Shim (A Room for Romeo Brass, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands) and Vicky McClure (A Room for Romeo Brass).
