THE TWO-DISC WAR OF THE WORLDS SPECIAL EDITION DVD BONUS MATERIALS

The War of the Worlds Special Edition DVD includes a second disc offering an arsenal of bonus materials:

WAR OF THE WORLDS

Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are teaming up again to adapt H.G. Wells's The War World of Worlds to the big screen according to trade paper Variety.

The famous tale about an invasion from Mars is already a cult Sci-Fi hit from 1953 and of course who can forget the Orsen Wells radio broadcast in 1938, which people actually thought was real (If you can get hold of a copy you won't be disappointed, it is a broadcasting classic).

The film is released on June 29th, with a script by David Koepp ("Jurassic Park", "Mission Impossible", "Spider-Man" and "Panic Room").

Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise talk about making 'War of the the Worlds' to Coming Soon!.net. Here is snippet...

Q: This being the second time you two have worked together, was it easier the second time around?

Cruise: I have to tell you personally that it just gets better, the experience working with Steven.

Spielberg: This was 100% character, while "Minority Report" was 50% character and 50% very complicated storytelling with layers and layers of murder mystery plotting. If any of the actors or Tom even gave a suggestion that he knew what was going to happen next, you the audience would have picked it up like that. Audiences are so smart today, because they pick up things so far out of left field. We were always concerned about giving away too much of a plot on Minority Report while we were working together. We were working like writers on a script in our director-actor relationship, making sure that the story has been told well. This was more "explorential". This was a character journey and everything we talked about was about Tom's character, Dakota's character, Justin Chatwin's character, Tim Robbin's character…all about who these people were, and in a sense, that freed us up to explore the world we didn't get a chance to explore in "Minority Report". Cruise: I had a lot of fun on "Minority Report". I had even more fun on this one. And the next one is going to be even more fun.

Dark Horizons has pulled off a scoop and posted an Interview with Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise on the set of War of the Worlds. Here is a snippet...

This completes your alien trilogy. The first two were nice aliens and these were mean ones. What does that say about your filmmaking and does it fit the time now?

Spielberg: No no. I'm just an equal opportunity director, you know? You know, I gave the benevolent aliens a couple of shots, and now I'm going to try my hand at the worst kind. (Laughs) You know, the kind that's just bent on ending civilization as we know it and beginning their own if you read the original book. You know, they reap and sow, and so I really have great respect for the book, but not to the extent that I would set the movie back in 1898. I was not going to do a Victorian science fiction movie.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

After enjoying a summer hit with the futurist crime thriller Minority Report, Director Steven Spielberg takes a trip back to the not too distant past to bring the true story of Frank Abagnale, Jr.

Abagnale Jr was a doctor, an airline pilot and a lawyer but the only thing is that he wasn't even eighteen years old yet. In fact he was, at the time, the most successful bank robber in US history and it was FBI Agent Carl Hanratty job to catch him. The probelm was that Abagnale was always one step ahead of him and he had no qualms about rubbing that fact in.

Starring Tom Hanks as Agent Carl Hanratty and Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank Abagnale, Jr, and co-starring Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen and Jennifer Garner with music by John Williams, Spielberg looks like he has another hit on his hands.
The movie opens in the US on Christmas Day and in the UK on January 10th.

Dark Horizons reporter Paul Fischer has interviewed Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio in New York about Catch me if you Can. Here is a snippet...

Spielberg has a different attitude when it comes to deciding what he will or will not direct. “I don’t really look for projects that I’m interested in. If a project comes along that discovers that I WAS interested in that subject, that becomes much more of a reason to say yes.” Subjects such as the Holocaust or World War 2. Yet in deciding to do Catch Me If You Can, a relatively light-hearted chase movie based on the real-life exploits of teenager Frank Abagnale, Jr, Spielberg decided to show the flip side to his cinematic personality, almost the jovial Spielberg. “I love your use of the word ‘jovial’ because I’ve never had that word quite applied to me in any way, shape or form,” says the director, smilingly. “But it says, about me, that I’ve found some kind of new colour that I never splashed against the canvas before. This is certainly the most laughs I’ve ever gotten out of one film that I’ve directed in my entire career.”
